Rally_doctor_notice.jpg
Notice about the withdrawal of the rally doctor, hotel lobby, Madras (quote from John Stathatos, “The Long Drive”, chapter 13)144 views“An issue which provoked a certain amount of ill feeling during the last days in Madras was the future of Dr John Teal, who was accompanying the rally in dual capacity of doctor and marshal. A sudden announcement by the organisers that Dr Teal would not be going to Malaysia and Australia was resented by the majority of competitors, many of whom had good reason to appreciate his care and services. In the face of a drivers’ petition, the organisers rather lamely excused their decision on the grounds that the sponsor refused to pay Dr Teal’s expenses (his services were provided gratis in both capacities). Whatever the reasons, it was an unwise and ill-judged decision. Dr Teal was greatly missed and, as though to underline his absence, the day after his final departure for Europe saw Andrew Cowan laid low with a severe case of dysentery.”"
